In addition to being rated fifth in Wales right now, the 66-year-old has advanced to the Welsh Amateur Championship’s round of 16.
He is the first West Welshman to qualify for Europe and may be the oldest Welsh snooker player ever. “It is without a doubt a great thrill to qualify for the Men’s European Championship at my age,” he stated.
I think I’m probably the oldest person to qualify—this has never been done before from Pembrokeshire or Ceredigion.
“I made it to the round of 16 in the Welsh Amateur finals, which are taking place on April 7,” I said. I am currently rated fifth in Wales.
“I am proud to represent Wales and I will do my best,” he continued. “It would be great to think I could progress further in the championships, but I expect the cream from many countries in Europe will be there.”
Barry continued, saying, “I am the same age as Steve Davis at 66 whom I met when I reached the finals of the Cockney Classic in London in 1985.” Barry began playing the sport at the age of 11.

Barry aims to represent his country in the Over 55 category in the Celtic Challenge Cup in Ireland. He has represented Wales on numerous occasions and will do so again in Leeds later this year in the men’s category. After winning the Over 55 Welsh Championship, it was an honor to serve as captain and rank #1 in the Over 55 division in 2023.
