Adam Johnson, a forward for the Nottingham Panthers, passed away after sustaining a severe cut to his neck during a skate during Saturday’s Challenge Cup game. The game against the Sheffield Steelers was stopped in the 35th minute as the 29-year-old American received emergency treatment from paramedics on the ice. The Panthers said on Sunday they were “devastated” Johnson had died following a “freak accident”. “The club will dearly miss him and will never ever forget him,” they added. Adam Johnson, a US ice-hockey player, died after a skate cut his throat during a cup match on Saturday. He was 29. Johnson was playing for the UK’s Nottingham Panthers against the Sheffield Steelers when the skate blade struck him in the neck. In a Facebook post, his mother, Kari Johnson, said she had “lost half of my heart” because it had been confirmed that her son had died.
