The Packers are considering whether to move on from star RB Aaron Jones after 2023.
Pete Dougherty of The Green Bay Press-Gazette suggests that Aaron Jones’ time as the Green Bay Packers’ star running back may be coming to an end following the 2023 NFL season, with the Packers potentially saving $5.4 million by releasing him in the offseason.
Aaron Jones may be asked to accept a pay cut by General Manager Brian Gutekunst, but the numerous issues surrounding him may deter negotiations. Jones has been limited to seven games this season due to hamstring and knee injuries, accumulating only 245 rushing yards and a few touchdowns. His average of 3.7 yards per carry is the least productive season of his NFL career. It’s unlikely that Jones will return to the field for the Packers.
Jones has made 19 receptions for 169 yards and scored a touchdown as a backfield receiver.
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Jones began his NFL career with a solid start, but his third season saw him break out with 1,084 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns. He also showed dual-threat ability with 49 receptions for 474 yards and three scores. Jones earned his first Pro Bowl nod in 2020 after 1,104 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, maintaining an impressive 5.5 yards per attempt. In 2022, he set a career-high with 1,121 rushing yards and scored twice on the ground. Last season, he had a career-best 59 receptions for 395 yards and five touchdowns. The Green Bay Packers, currently 6-7, face a must-win game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 15.
