Wolves move to sign Premier League contract rebel in £7million January deal
Wolves have planned a low-budget £7 million January raid on Turf Moor in an attempt to sign Josh Brownhill, the captain of Burnley.
Since taking over at Bournemouth, Brownhill, who is valued at £20 million by Burnley, has been admired by Molineux manager Gary O’Neill. As the winter transfer window opens, Wolves will prioritize signing the left-sided midfielder.
After spending £9 million to join the team from Bristol City, Bownhill, 27, is already well into the last year of his contract. Burnley is reportedly prepared to exercise a one-year option on the star player. However, O’Neill is adamant about signing the Clarets captain either next month or in the summer, so they might have left it too late.
Early in the season, after Burnley acquired Norwegian international Sander Berge from Sheffield United, Bownhill lost the trust of manager Vincent Kompany. However, following his pivotal role in Burnley’s incredible Premier League comeback the previous season, Brownhill has returned to his former form as a vital member of Kompany’s squad, tallying three Premier League goals.
It’s believed Brownhill is open to a move to Wolves although Crystal Palace, Fulham and Championship high-flyers Leicester are also keen on the hard-working star.
