Phillies’ rising stars are gaining fame in coaching and executive ranks.
Teams are constantly seeking talent, from minor league players to replacement-level players, as the MLB offseason continues. Fast risers in the industry, such as replacement-level players, have gained notoriety for their work, abilities, and future in baseball.
Eno Sarris of The Athletic has compiled a list of 12 potential future stars in management and coaching, including two Philadelphia Phillies. Caleb Cotham, the Phillies’ pitching coach, has gained recognition for his ability to innovate, inform, and interact. Cotham has transformed the Phillies’ pitching staff, producing the second-highest fWAR at 24.4. He has also lowered the team’s ERA from 5.20 in 2020 to 4.39 (2021), 3.98 (2022), and 4.03 (2023). Meanwhile, Preston Mattingly, son of legend Don Mattingly, is making a name for himself in the executive ranks. Mattingly has been with the Phillies since 2021 and is considered a future general manager by one rival executive.
At 36 years old, he is nearly there, and it’s possible that he could be the eventual replacement for current general manager Sam Fuld.
