Jake Hager hoped to leverage his MMA triumph to launch a WWE comeback and a showdown with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania!
After battling for the final time at Bellator 250 in October 2020, the AEW star just declared his retirement from MMA. He departs the sport with a professional record of three victories without a loss and one no-contest following his unintentional groin strikes to Anthony Garrett at Bellator 231.
The former Jack Swagger has now revealed the motivation behind his brief stint in MMA: Hager intended to go undefeated in the sport in order to return to WWE as a greater figure after his departure in March 2017.
In a signing for K&S WrestleFest, Hager explained his strategy and expressed his desire to grow to stardom so he could challenge Roman Reigns to a match at WrestleMania.
The 41-year-old insisted that even though the plan didn’t work out that he’d still defeat Reigns if they faced off right now and urged supporters to forward his word to The Tribal Chief!
Chris Jericho Alleges Jake Hager Once Saved His Life Chris Jericho claimed Jake Hager once saved his life while the two were both still competing for the WWE on a Talk Is Jericho broadcast in June 2022.
Jericho got into a fight with an angry individual who made threats to place a bounty on the former AEW World Champion’s head while on tour in Abu Dhabi. In the end, Hager persuaded Jericho to avoid a fight with the man, maybe sparing his life.
