According to a recent report, a Tottenham star may be on the verge of leaving the club in January as a result of James Maddison’s outstanding play.
Tottenham is now ranked second in the Premier League thanks to Ange Postecoglou’s success in recent months.
Tottenham has continued to project menace in the final third despite the absence of Harry Kane, and much of that is attributable to Maddison’s outstanding play.
Maddison has excelled under Postecoglou since joining from Leicester City this summer, and he is currently one of the first names on the squad sheet.
Giovani Lo Celso hasn’t had many chances to prove himself this season because the former Leicester player has started every Premier League game.
Under Postecoglou, the Argentine attacking midfielder has yet to make a league start and has only appeared in 16 minutes of Premier League action. He is currently unable to move due to a hamstring injury, so he will probably be considering his alternatives.
Lo Celso was strongly rumored to be leaving Tottenham this summer, but a transfer never happened. The 27-year-old was interested in a loan deal with Barcelona, but Spurs swiftly declined this proposal.
Postecoglou was impressed with the midfielder throughout preseason, despite the fact that he hasn’t had many opportunities this year.
During the preseason, Postecoglou told reporters, “I’m really happy with Gio.” He has performed admirably in training. You can tell he’s a good player, and I believe our style of play is ideal for him.
“I’ve enjoyed working with him and I think he’s enjoying himself in terms of the football we want to play. Yeah, it’s going well.”
An exit in January appears likely.
Before the January window opens, interest in the 27-year-old is already beginning to pick up. His current contract expires in 2025, and given the current situation, it appears doubtful that he would sign an extension.
The most recent team to be connected to the Tottenham star is Real Betis, but their club president quickly shot these rumors down.
Football Insider reports that because to Maddison’s appropriation of the number 10 position under Postecoglou, Spurs may now accept a bid for Lo Celso in January.
The 27-year-old is most likely going to miss Tottenham’s match against Arsenal this weekend, and a new beginning somewhere might be ideal for his career right now.
As Rodrigo Bentancur also approaches a return, he will probably find himself even farther down the pecking order by the time he has fully recovered from this injury.
