After being left out of the Italy team due to injury, Destiny Udogie is a player that Tottenham Hotspur is hoping will be available for their next game against Aston Villa.
The 20-year-old has reportedly been concentrating on recovering from a hamstring injury that prevented him from playing in the victory over Crystal Palace in late October, according to a report from The Athletic.
This season, Tottenham has seen a number of revelations, including Destiny Udogie. Few could have predicted that the young one would pick things up so quickly. He appears to be ideal for Ange Postecoglou’s system, though.
Destiny Udogie is expected to return for Tottenham’s next match.
But the full-back’s past few weeks have been eventful. He suffered a hamstring injury that kept him out of the victory over Crystal Palace, but he was back for Spurs’ next match.
The next game turned out to be that incredible loss to Chelsea, where Udogie was sent off for two yellow cards and faced a lot of backlash.
Before the break, he received a suspension for the Wolves match loss. Tottenham supporters could have been worried when he failed to join the Italy team.
However, The Athletic reports that Spurs are hopeful he will play this weekend against Aston Villa, suggesting they are optimistic he will be available after the break.
Much-needed boost for Spurs
That news may not come as a huge surprise as Udogie was seemingly still keen to go away with Italy this month despite the issue.
Tottenham will be thankful that the injury is not serious. Unfortunately, that game against Chelsea proved to be a lot more damaging than just a defeat, with Micky van de Ven and James Maddison both sustaining injuries.
Maddison is not expected to play again this year. Meanwhile, van de Ven is also facing several weeks out.
So not losing Udogie for a lengthy period is a big boost for a Tottenham side who will be desperate to not throw away their brilliant start to the season.
