Contract negotiations between Cardiff City and winger Ollie Tanner have begun.
Tanner, 21, has excelled under boss Erol Bulut and scored his first goal as a senior in the south Wales derby victory over Swansea City last weekend.
Tanner, who was acquired from non-league Lewes last summer, has one year left on his present contract, although the Bluebirds are considering extending it.
As usual, we talk behind the scenes, according to Cardiff CEO Ken Choo.
We’ll work out a deal with him.
“In the previous several weeks, he has proven that he can be a fantastic prospect. He has a long way to go and a long-term plan, but based on what we have seen so far, we are pleased.
After turning down offers from Premier League Tottenham, Tanner joined in a transfer estimated to be worth roughly £50,000. Tanner was previously an academy product of Arsenal.
Prior to being loaned out to York City of the National League, he initially struggled to make an impression under the then-manager Steve Morison.
Prior to impressing new manager Bulut, he was poised for another loan transfer this summer. He has since made five Championship outings.
He began Tuesday’s 3-2 triumph against Coventry that moved Cardiff into the top-half of the standings for the first time this season after making an immediate impact off the bench against Swansea, scoring just minutes after going on and then winning the penalty for Aaron Ramsey to convert in the 2-0 victory.
He is one of the players that had the most goals and assists in the preseason, according to Bulut, who said it at the beginning of the season.
He proved to be able to assist us. He demonstrated against Swansea, worked hard today, and I hope he keeps doing so.
