Burnley hasn’t had a great season; the Clarets are now ranked 19th in the Premier League with just a point. Things haven’t been going so well for Vincent Kompany and Burnley.
The fact that only Luton Town are below them in the table illustrates to the Belgian players the hard realities of playing in the English top division.
Of course, there is still a long way to go in the 2023–24 season, and Kompany will probably be hoping that sooner or later something clicks, and they can start moving up the table.
If they had been able to sign Dodi Lukebakio, a 25-year-old marksman from Hertha Berlin, in the summer, their mission might have been made simpler.
Sport BILD stated that Burnley had submitted a £9.5 million proposal for the services of a fellow Belgian player.
Nevertheless, he ultimately decided to join La Liga team Sevilla, and in an interview he gave to the Spanish newspaper MARCA, he claimed that making the move was simple.
He was quoted as adding, “Of course you have to listen when a team like Sevilla show interest.
Then, we had a lengthy conversation. Because they are a good club and that is what I want, to play to progress as a young player, you don’t need to think too hard about it. Choosing Sevilla wasn’t tough at all.
Lukebakio played his first minutes for the club and scored the game-winning goal against Las Palmas over the weekend, a game in which Andalusians were bottom of the Spanish top division. He could have been forgiven for believing that his initial decision had been at best unwise.
He may now be able to launch his career in Spain, and Kompany will likely want his team to do the same.
