Dane Scarlett, a Tottenham Hotspur loan player, received praise from Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna for his performance at Southampton under pressure and in a difficult atmosphere.
This summer, the youthful Spurs forward signed a season-long loan with the Championship team.
In the EFL Cup, he made his Ipswich debut against Fulham. On Tuesday, he replaced George Hirst as a 71st-minute replacement against Saints.
In the final 27 minutes of the valiant Tractor Boys victory, McKenna insisted that Scarlett performed admirably under duress and in a challenging setting against the Saints defense.
McKenna responded to the Ipswich reporters, “Of course, then Dane coming on as well.”
“You know under that pressure, in that setting, and against those center-backs for 25, 30, or whatever it was.
“You know that’s good for him and that helps him fit into the group,” I said.
Tottenham will keep a close eye on how much game time McKenna hands Scarlett as they look for him to clock regular game time and continue his development.
