Diogo Jota praises two Liverpool players who were key to win over Brentford
Diogo Jota explained his delight with the result and performances of his team-mates during Liverpool’s win against Brentford Diogo Jota expressed pleasure at the reaction he and his team-mates showed as Liverpool ran out 3-0 victors against Brentford singing the praises of Kostas Tsimikas and Mohamed Salah in particular.
The 26-year-old played 83 minutes of the Reds’ return to Anfield on Sunday, scoring the third and last goal of the hard-fought win over Thomas Frank’s side.
For his strike he cut inside off the left flank before firing into the right of the Kop end’s goal.
Heading into the international break it was a confidence-boosting three points, as it transpired after the day’s later match it places Liverpool only a point behind league leaders Manchester City, who they face next, having failed to win their previous two matches.
“[It was] really important to show a reaction – we had a really tough week with two not so good results,” Jota told LFC TV.
“Back in Anfield there is always a reaction so three points before the international break as well, perfect.
” “Especially the Luton game, it is Premier League and we drop two points there so we know it was really important to get back to victories today.
” After making his confidence for returning after the international break known, he commented on two team-mates’ performances in particular.
Kostas Tsimikas, starting at left back in the absence of Andy Robertson, was part of the back four that helped prevent the visitors from scoring whilst also providing two assists – one for his Portuguese colleague.
Jota said: “Two assists, it’s important to give him confidence as well.
We need him.
We need everybody and today’s game will be important for everyone.
“Always keep a clean sheet.
If we do that, we are always very close to winning because thanks to our quality we can score in every game.
We know it is decisive like and we want to do it more often.
” Finally, kudos to Mohamed Salah, who scored his 199th and 200th goals in English football against Mark Flekken.
” He’s a real threat,” Jota exclaimed.
“We know that when he has the ball, he scores goals, assists and he is really important for us.
Congratulations for that.
