The Green Bay Packers Make Last Second Change To Defense Prior To Matchup With Pittsburgh Steelers
This week, the Green Bay Packers will travel to the East Coast to play the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Packers need to be more confident than they have been since the beginning of the season, when they were only one bad quarter away from going 3-0 after starting 2-1.
The Los Angeles Rams were limited to just three points overall last week as a result of the defense’s outstanding play. It’s encouraging to hold an NFL offense to three points, even if it was against a backup quarterback. When the Packers play Kenny Pickett this week, they will have the same opportunity. By no means is Pickett a backup quarterback, but he is not among the best in the league.
Innis Gaines, the team’s defensive back
team, was given a promotion on Saturday in preparation for the Green Bay Packers’ encounter with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Their depth in an unexpectedly thin secondary makes the move all the more anticipated.
The Packers had 52 players on their roster, so there was no need for them to make a corresponding move.
Gaines was the starting backup in the slot during training camp and the preseason despite being listed by the Packers as a safety. This week, he performed drills at the same position during practice.
Gaines’s physical play style earned him the nickname “Thump” during his junior year of high school. Gaines made an impression on TCU with his high school resume and gritty play style, as they extended an offer to him
academic work. He was a member of the Pro Football Focus All-Big 1 Second-Team in 2018. But things quickly changed for the worse.
As a junior at TCU, Gaines made his debut, but an ACL tear kept him out of action six games into the season. When his senior season arrived, Gaines was starting from the first row once more in Week 1. Another tragedy had struck. Gaines had another torn ACL eight games into the season. Gaines did not get drafted in 2020.
Despite his disappointments, “Thump” persisted in pursuing his NFL dream. He put a lot of effort into healing his wounds. However, he found work as a DoorDash driver delivering food in the interim.
The Packers decided to take a chance on Gaines late in the 2020 NFL season and scheduled
a workout to find out his limits. Gaines received a contract offer from Green Bay in 2021, so they must have been pleased with what they saw.
In 2021, Gaines was a member of the Packers practice squad for all but one week. But in 2022, the Packers cut him loose after agreeing to an injury settlement in late August.
His unlikely journey came to an end on November 29, when the Packers promoted him to the 53rd roster following additional rehabilitation. He was added back to the practice squad in October.
Gaines is a regular DoorDash customer in addition to being a starting NFL player. Gaines states, “I raise it a couple extra bucks because I know how hard they work,” in regards to tipping the drivers. I’m not
Put $20 in each transaction; I’m not wealthy yet.
