According to K.V. Kortrijk’s official club website, Craig Cathcart has joined the team after leaving Watford.
When the defender’s contract with Watford expired at the end of the previous campaign, the club decided to release him.
In late June, Cathcart, 34, formally severed connections with the Hornets. Since then, he has been considering his options as a free agent.
He has since relocated to Belgium and signed a one-year contract with top-flight team Kortrijk. His new club also has the option to extend the contract by another year.
WHO IS THIS?
New home for departed Watford man
Cathcart was a great servant to Watford and made 262 appearances for them in all competitions, chipping in with eight goals from the back.
He rocked up at Vicarage Road back in 2014 and helped them gain promotion to the Premier League in his first year at the club. They then stayed at the top level for five campaigns before slipping back into the second tier.
However, the Hornets were able to get promoted at the first time of asking in 2021 under former boss C but were relegated 12 months later.
Cathcart rose up through the ranks at Manchester United but never made a senior appearance for the Red Devils as a youngster. Instead, he gained experience out on loan from Old Trafford with spells at Royal Antwerp, Plymouth Argyle and Watford before joining Blackpool on a permanent basis for three years.
Kortrijk finished 14th in the table last term and are managed by Edward Still, who is the brother of Stade de Reims’ Will Still. They have also signed striker Isaak Davies and winger Alex Mighten on loan from Cardiff City and Nottingham Forest respectively recently.
