On Saturday, Judd Trump and John Higgins will square off in the English Open semifinals.
In their quarterfinal match, Trump defeated Matthew Selt 5-1 with breaks of 137 and 103, keeping him on course for his first championship since defeating Selt to win the 2022 Turkish Masters.
With a best break of 82, Higgins defeated Martin O’Donnell by the same margin.
“I haven’t played my best yet, it’s there in spells,” Trump stated.
“Hopefully I’ll save that for the semi-final and final.”
Trump of England and veteran Scottish Higgins have faced off in two World Championship finals before, with Trump winning in 2019 and Higgins winning in 2011.
Zhang Anda of China, who defeated world No. 1 Ronnie O’Sullivan in the last-16 stage, kept up his impressive form on Friday and will take on fellow countryman Liu Hongyu in the other semi-final.
Zhang defeated Zhou Yuelong, a fellow Chinese player, 5–4.
The 19-year-old Liu advanced with an impressive 5-2 victory over 14-time ranking event winner Ding Junhui, who has previously won the UK Championship and the Masters title.
