Striker who has been linked to Southampton and Leicester confirms departure from Brighton
Andi Zeqiri, a striker, has signed a long-term contract with Genk of Belgium after leaving Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Swiss international made 13 appearances for the Seagulls, scoring one. This summer, he was also linked with transfers to Southampton and Leicester.
Zeqiri spent the previous season on loan at FC Basel in Switzerland’s top division; his contract expired in June of that year. The season before, he also spent time on loan at FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga.
Andi made good progress with Basel last season, and according to technical director David Weir, he is now prepared to play consistently and permanently someplace. Andi has a fantastic opportunity, and we wish him luck in the future.
The 24-year-old played nine Premier League games after moving from Lausanne to Albion for almost £4 million in October 2020. In August 2021, he scored in the 2-0 victory over Cardiff City during the Carabao Cup.
He has a three-year contract with Genk, with an additional year’s option, and will wear the No. 9 jersey.
