Although Liverpool’s ability to score goals is undeniably well-known, Alan Shearer felt this past weekend that the defense, particularly Joe Gomez, deserved praise.

Much was made of Liverpool’s hiring this summer, much like a new signing. As we are all aware, they largely kept the rest of the team as it was while rebuilding their midfield.
Therefore, Liverpool will feel as though they have made a fresh signing when they see Gomez back and performing well. Gomez is undoubtedly talented, and despite a few bumpy patches, he still has time on his side at 26.
The Reds have had a strong start to the season, and if players like Gomez and others can maintain their form, a title push may be in the works.
Therefore, Gomez will be overjoyed to get this small amount of praise tonight.
