Nottingham Forest is still of the opinion that they added two players to their summer roster who will strengthen their defense. The team’s performance against Liverpool yesterday was, to put it mildly, lackluster as they lost 3-0.
Nicolas Dominguez and Ibrahim Sangare were on the team at Anfield. On the day of the transfer deadline, those two players signed, and it seems the club has high expectations for them both.
Even though the team added a lot of players during the summer transfer window, those two stood out. Sangare became the team’s prize acquisition when Brennan Johnson joined Tottenham.
Sangare and Dominguez, in Forest’s opinion, can strengthen the group.
The Athletic has provided insight into some of Forest’s considerations when they decided to add Sangare and Dominguez. Given that they signed in the summer, it’s safe to assume that both players are still aiming for peak performance.
“Sangare, the Ivory Coast international, and the diligent Dominguez were players Forest believed could provide the level of protection in front of the back four that would allow those around them a greater degree of attacking freedom,” the article published in The Athletic states. The club is still of this belief.
It’s taking the two players some time to get comfortable. It’s safe to say that Dominguez has adapted to life in England a little bit more quickly than Sangare, who currently seems to be doing so rather slowly.
Forests need to get better.
The Reds are currently sleepwalking into another relegation struggle. The outcome from yesterday was probably expected, but the performance level was completely disorganized.
At Anfield, Forest failed to execute the basics. From the start, the team appears resigned to losing, and far too many players had off days.
Sangare’s mistake yesterday was not tracking his runner for the second goal. Although it wasn’t a particularly strong performance, he hopes to improve in the upcoming weeks.
However, Sangare and Dominguez still have time to catch up. Though the season is still early, maybe Forest will get to see both players at their best in the future.
