An ice hockey player was rushed to the hospital after suffering a horrific throat injury that left traumatized fans in tears.
Adam Johnson is believed to have taken an ice hockey blade to the neck in a freak accident during Saturday’s match between the Nottingham Panthers and the Sheffield Steelers at Utilita Arena Sheffield.
According to one eyewitness who spoke to Mail Online, Johnson attempted to skate back to his team after his throat injury but collapsed before he got there, causing panicked scenes as players and medics rushed out to help the stricken star.
Around 8,000 fans saw the nightmare collision before the game was quickly stopped and screens were brought onto the pitch to protect the players involved. The match has since been abandoned.
“It was horrifying to witness. “People were crying and passing out,” said another stunned witness.
A Sheffield Steelers player appeared to have caused the freak accident while attempting to tackle another of Mr Johnson’s teammates.
Mr Johnson is seen being struck in the neck by a skate before collapsing. Despite heavy bleeding, the hockey star manages to get to his feet as teammates rush to assist him.

“We were called to the Sheffield Steelers game at Sheffield Arena at 8:21 this evening.” “We responded to a male and dispatched two ambulances and a critical care paramedic, and we transported one patient to hospital,” a Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesperson told MailOnline.
The incident left stunned fans traumatized, with many taking to social media to express their shock at the accident.
