Nottingham Forest news as Steve Cooper’s Reds prepare to play Liverpool in the Premier League.
Nottingham Forest’s head coach, Steve Cooper, has stated that the club will “take time” to establish itself in the Premier League.
After another summer of change and a busy transfer window, the Reds have shown encouraging signs in their first nine games of the season. They have 10 points so far, but have lost five games in a row.
The City Ground crowd booed after the hosts threw away a two-goal lead in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Luton Town. Cooper has stressed that the path to progress will be bumpy and will not happen overnight ahead of Sunday’s trip to Anfield to face Liverpool.
“Being 2-0 up at home, completely dominating a game and not winning, there is frustration everywhere,” that’s what he said. “OK, that’s fine with me. I obviously don’t like it, but we have to accept it – and I certainly do.
“I’m not sure what to expect in terms of expectations. What I do know is that this season will not be easy. Anyone who believes it is – in terms of the training ground, myself, and the team – is mistaken. We don’t have that mindset.
“We’ve been out of the Premier League for 20 years and are only in our second season back.” It takes years and years to build a solid squad and team.
“We haven’t been here for more than a year.”

“It’s hard to believe we’re only in our second season, with all the new players we signed last season and this season… In terms of staffing, there has also been a lot of change. It’s all in the name of trying to get better.
“But it doesn’t just happen. It takes a good few years. It takes a rocky read. It definitely takes some lows as well as highs to become the real squad, team, staff you need to be to be more than comfortable at this level.
“We’re not at the start, but we’re definitely nowhere near the end. This season is going to be really difficult, there is no doubt about that. I think every season in the Premier League is anyway, but certainly when you are really trying to become a Premier League club both on and off the pitch.
“We are in the progress and transition of doing that. I know that, that’s why we’re not going to get too high after a win and we’re definitely not get too low after a poor result. We can be disappointed, because we’re competitive and we want to do well. But it is going to take time to become the real club and team we want to be.”
