Following reports that Manchester United has been forced to withdraw from the race, Liverpool could sign one of Europe’s “hottest talents.”
Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were among those who left Liverpool during the summer transfer window.
As a result, Jurgen Klopp added Alexis MacAllister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch to his midfield.
Their next signing, however, appears to be in a completely different position, with the Reds reportedly interested in Sporting Lisbon centre-back Goncalo Inacio.
Liverpool’s interest was confirmed earlier this month by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who told CaughtOffside that the 22-year-old was on the radars of Manchester United, Liverpool, and Newcastle United.
However, in a boost to Klopp’s transfer hopes, Premier League rivals United have been forced to withdraw from the race for his signature due to a lack of funds, according to Football Insider.
According to Le Parisien, this could clear the way for Liverpool, who were leading the race to sign Inacio in May.
Since then, the Portuguese defender has signed a contract extension that will keep him at Sporting until 2027.
Although Liverpool are thought to be willing to pay his £42.9 million release clause in order to bolster their defense.
Inacio, who is left-footed, would provide useful cover for Virgil van Dijk, who normally plays on the left side.
According to a Daily Mail scouting report, the youngster was described as one of Europe’s hottest talents.
