The 26-year-old defender has been an ever-present for Saints at right-back so far this season, starting all 12 of their league games without missing a single minute.
Back in the team at the MKM Stadium on Saturday afternoon, Walker-Peters was excellent against the Tigers, setting up the opener on 20 minutes with an excellent run into the box to beat a defender and a composed cutback to Will Smallbone who fired home.
Liam Delap went on to equalise for the hosts but Saints had the last laugh as substitute Ryan Fraser struck the winner deep into stoppage time to send Russell Martin’s side up to fifth in the table.
Walker-Peters’ performance has now seen him named in the Championship’s team of the week for gameweek 12 alongside Delap. Also included is former Southampton centre-back Jannik Vestergaard after he scored in Leicester City’s win against Swansea and the Foxes’ 19-year-old striker Abdul Fatawu.
Leeds United’s Crysencio Summerville is also included after he scored twice in the Whites’ comeback win over Norwich City, with the Canaries’ efforts represented by the inclusion of Gabriel Sara in the team.
There’s also a spot in the team for Birmingham City goalkeeper John Ruddy after he made ten saves against Middlesbrough. The former Norwich and Wolves shot-stopper prevented 2.58 expected goals during the match, which saw Wayne Rooney’s new side lose 1-0.
John Ruddy (Birmingham City), Robert Dickie (Bristol City), Jannik Vestergaard (Leicester City), Luke McNally (Stoke City), Kyle Walker-Peters (Southampton), Crysencio Summerville (Leeds United), Gabriel Sara (Norwich City), Jack Rudoni (Huddersfield Town), Matt Crooks (Middlesbrough), Abdul Fatawu (Leicester City), and Liam Delap (Hull City) are this week’s Championship Team of the Week participants.
