When Nottingham Forest got back into action on Saturday following the international break, the outcome wasn’t quite what they had hoped for.
At the City Ground, the Reds gave up a two-goal lead to Luton Town and were forced to settle for a draw. On Sunday, there is a trip to play Liverpool.
Further misfortune on the injury front limited head coach Steve Cooper’s options on the field this past weekend; however, Ola Aina emerged from the bench and Serge Aurier was cleared to play after initially being doubtful. As Forest gets ready for the match at Anfield, we look at the injury situation below.
A hamstring injury.
What is known: During the warm-up for the Luton match, the summer signing pulled his hamstring. He will now be sidelined for an extended period of time.
“Callum is out for six weeks,” is what has been stated. He has a pulled hamstring,” Cooper said.
Divock Origi Hip Injuries.
What is known: The forward was added to the list of players injured before Saturday’s match at the City Ground, just like Hudson-Odoi. It is anticipated that he will be gone for several weeks.
What has been stated is that Divock is injured in his hip. That will keep him out of action for a good few weeks,” Cooper stated following the game. “With injuries, we haven’t had a great week, especially with our attacking players.” Obviously, Taiwo isn’t available.
Gonzalo Montiel’s calf injury.
What is known is that during the international break, the defender was serving with Argentina. He took the field for their midweek encounter against Peru, but an injury forced him to leave the game after just over 30 minutes. After his return to the UK, additional testing was scheduled to ascertain the severity of the issue.
What has been said: During his pre-game press conference, Cooper stated, “He’s only recently returned to the country.” We’ll evaluate it in-house. According to the preliminary scans, there appears to be a calf injury.
Since Gonzalo has only recently returned, we will need to have a thorough assessment by the medics to determine the full extent of the damage. I hope it’s not as horrible as it could be. While it appears to be a muscle injury, we’ll have to wait and see.”
Groin is Taiwo Awoniyi’s injury.
What is known: The striker will miss a month of action, which is a major setback for the Reds. He was hurt in the groin during Brentford’s 1-1 draw. Although it happened on the opposite leg this season, he experienced a similar issue the previous season.
What has been stated: Cooper stated last week that Taiwo was making good progress. He will soon be starting training, so let’s see how things go in the upcoming week before the
For a month, he is absent. In the match against Brentford, he did it.
He knows he can do it because he has recovered from injuries in the past and is very strong. He’ll promise to do that.
“As soon as we can, we’ll get T into rehabilitation and treatment. We’ll do everything in our power to support him, as we are confident that he will have a positive outlook and make every effort to get back to us as soon as possible.
