Andrey Santos, who is currently on loan at Steve Cooper’s Nottingham Forest from Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea, is one of the players Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United is reportedly eyeing as a possible replacement for Sandro Tonali.
Newcastle United has reportedly compiled a list of players who might be added if Sandro Tonali is suspended from football due to bet-related violations, according to 90min.
One of them is Scott McTominay, a midfielder for Manchester United
Kalvin Phillips, a midfielder for Manchester City and an England international, is another.
Ruben Neves, a former midfielder for Wolverhampton Wanderers, is also being considered by Newcastle.
According to 90min, Andrey Santos may also be brought to St. James’ Park by Newcastle during the January transfer window.
Two issues with Andrey Santos and Newcastle United
According to the report, Andrey Santos has Newcastle United “intrigued.”
Prior to Santos signing a £13 million contract with Chelsea in January 2023, the Magpies intended to bring him to St. James’ Park (Goal).
A possible trade between Newcastle and the Brazilian midfielder, however, has two issues.
To start with, Santos is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest.
Therefore, Forest would need to be persuaded to end the loan agreement early.
Second, Lewis Hall is already on loan at Newcastle from Chelsea.
In order for Santos to join the Magpies on loan, Newcastle would need to finalize Hall’s contract.
There is “an obligation to buy clause” in Hall’s contract, but 90min claims that it is only valid for the summer of the following year.
Andrey Santos might not be sent by Chelsea to Newcastle United.
Even on a loan, I’m not sure if Chelsea would send Andrey Santos to Newcastle United.
This season’s Premier League table features Chelsea and Newcastle as direct competitors for the UEFA Champions League spots.
Why the Blues would support Newcastle in the second half of the season is beyond me.
Pablo Maia of Sao Paulo is reportedly being considered by a number of teams, including Newcastle, according to a report from 90min.
According to the report, the midfielder has been scouted by Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle, West Ham United, Nottingham Forest, and Fulham.
