Teams that are considering UFA Pacioretty include the Maple Leafs.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are not the only team pursuing free-agent winger Max Pacioretty; other teams are also interested in him, according to TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston.
“Certainly someone that the Leafs have some interest in, that they’ve looked at and really I think that Max has to make a decision for himself, because it’s not just the Leafs that have knocked on his door,” Johnston said First Up on TSN Radio 1050. “Toronto, we’ve discussed the team’s possible desire to acquire Pacioretty or the lack of depth on the left side. He has other options outside Toronto, so we’ll have to wait and see. Not that he has an abundance of them, but as the summer is coming to an end, he’s in a position where I believe he will be able to sign a contract as opposed to a tryout, and the Leafs are one of the teams that I believe has some interest in him.”
The 35-year-old Pacioretty played in 47 games for the Washington Capitals in the previous year, scoring 23 points and four goals. Before the New York Rangers swept the Capitals in the first round of the playoffs, he added an assist in four more games.
After rupturing his right Achilles tendon twice in January 2023 while playing for the Carolina Hurricanes, the 6-foot-2 winger made his NHL comeback in January.
He recently signed a $2 million, one-year contract with the Capitals in the summer.
After being chosen by the Montreal Canadiens with the 22nd overall pick in 2007, Pacioretty has played for the Canadiens, Vegas Golden Knights, Hurricanes, and Capitals in 902 games, totaling 330 goals and 668 points. With 21 players on their roster for this season, the Maple Leafs have $1.275 million in cap space, per PuckPedia.
