Caitlin Clark breaks countless WNBA records while wearing Kobe shoes vs. Angel Reese’s Sky.
On Friday, WNBA rookie sensation Caitlin Clark strengthened her case for Rookie of the Year against Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese. During the Indiana Fever’s 100-81 victory over the Sky, Clark shattered numerous WNBA records. She also flaunted Kobe Bryant memorabilia in front of Reese while wearing brand-new Nike Kobe 6 Protro PE sneakers. Reese has stated that her favorite athlete is Kobe Bryant. In fact, last year, she collaborated with the former NBA player’s foundation to market a clothing line through her own foundation.
On the basketball court, Clark showed no mercy either. In the victory, he broke several WNBA records with a career-high 31 points and 12 assists. In WNBA history, it was the first 30-point, 12-assist game. She is currently the first rookie and only the fifth player in NBA history to achieve at least 30 points and 10 assists in a same game. Furthermore, with 11 double-doubles this season, Clark ties the WNBA record for the most double-doubles by a guard in a single campaign. She also shattered the WNBA record for the most games played in a season with at least 20 points and 10 assists. That’s not where it ends.
Clark also passed Ticha Penicheiro to claim the record for most games with at least 10 assists by a rookie in WNBA history.
With the performance, Clark also became the first player in WNBA history to have multiple career games with at least 25 points, 10 assists and five 3-pointers.
Friday’s historic performance comes just three days after Clark set the record for most made 3-pointers by a WNBA record, surpassing the mark initially set by the Atlanta Dream’s Rhyne Howard. She was 3-of-12 from downtown and finished with 19 points, five rebounds and five assists as Indiana picked up its 15th win.
That same night, she also became the first WNBA player to have at least 15 points, five rebounds and five assists in six consecutive WNBA games. It was her 10th straight game with at least 15 points and five rebounds, which put her in the elite club with Diana Taurasi as the players who have hit the mark.
Even as a rookie in the WNBA, Clark is no stranger to shattering historic records in women’s basketball. From 2020 to 24 while attending the University of Iowa, Clark rose to the top of the NCAA Division I men’s and women’s scoring charts. She set a record for the most lifetime assists in NCAA tournament history and broke the record for 3-pointers made in a single season. Many have praised Clark as a player who is unlike any other in women’s basketball history.
