The Athletic lists the Indiana Pacers’ 2024 NBA offseason as the 14th best.
David Aldridge assessed every NBA team’s 2024 offseason from best to worst for a project for The Athletic. The Indiana Pacers came in at number 14, which is slightly above average.
The Pacers’ own skill was mainly preserved. They extended Andrew Nembhard’s contract, however they let Obi Toppin, Pascal Siakam, Quenton Jackson, and James Johnson to remain in free agency. They have been locked down since a few years ago.The majority of the players they signed this summer were younger; before signing James Wiseman and Cole Swider, Indiana selected Johnny Furphy, Tristen Newton, and Enrique Freeman in the draft. Only Doug McDermott, Isaiah Wong, Jalen Smith, and Oscar Tshiebwe have been ruled out of the 2023–24 season thus far.
We have given this one route a lot of thought. Regarding bringing it back with a comparable roster, Pacers general manager Chad Buchanan stated, “You’ve always got to look and see what’s out there on the market.” “I’m also really happy about our youthful core. It is in equilibrium.”It’s challenging to grade running it back, but as a strategy for the blue and gold, it made sense. They are a youthful yet skilled team that made it to the Eastern Conference Finals the previous season despite having a large portion of their rotation with fewer than five years of league experience. Even if it could be challenging to repeat it, they have enough skills together to succeed.
Aldridge is pleased that the Pacers, who added the former All-NBA forward in January, can continue to progress by holding onto Siakam. “It’s evident that the Pacers understood the cost of retaining Siakam when they acquired him from Toronto, but the official completion of the deal allows the team to continue its ascent in the East. With plenty of postseason potential spread across the rotation and a full season of Siakam, Tyrese Haliburton, and Myles Turner at the pace Indiana plays, the Pacers should have an advantage over many of their rivals.for a spot in the East’s top four,” Aldridge wrote. “There’s no harm in taking a chance on Wiseman, the No. 2 pick in 2020 who can run the floor and rebound. All he has to do is do it constantly. It is imperative that Mathurin and 2023 first-round pick Jarace Walker return to significant playing time, as Rick Carlisle’s team advanced far in the playoffs without them.”The Pacers are presently expected by those who make predictions or set betting lines to win 45–50 games following their summer.
