Odysseas Vlachodimos, the goalkeeper for Nottingham Forest, has gained considerable recognition for his last two international appearances. Over the past two weeks, the stopper has been in action for Greece against the Republic of Ireland and Holland.
On the day of the transfer window, the 29-year-old left Benfica to sign with the Reds. After spending about £10 million on him throughout the summer, the team is still waiting on him to make his debut.
With Vlachodimos, Forest appears to have a very capable goalie on their hands. Now that the player’s efforts for his country have garnered such high praise, Steve Cooper will certainly want to consider them.
Vlachodimos receives praise for his performances in Greece
For his efforts while serving on the international team, the Forest goalkeeper has been included in the Who Scored Team of the Week. Eleven players who have excelled for their nations are included, and Vlachodimos is one of them.
Evangelos Marinakis signed the player in the summer. According to one rumor, the Reds manager couldn’t have chosen a better player for the Forest squad, and he was eager to have a Greek international there.
The standout player for Forest, Vlachodimos, made five saves against the Netherlands and four against the Republic of Ireland, according to Who Scored. Against the Dutch, the goalkeeper also stopped a penalty kick by Wout Weghorst.
Vlachodimos is gagging for a crack at Forest.
The Forest stopper knows he needs to exercise patience right now. It’s interesting to note that Matt Turner, another Forest goalkeeper, is also receiving recognition for his performances on the international scene in addition to Vlachodimos.
However, it’s encouraging to see that the Reds have so many excellent goalkeepers. Turner and Vlachodimos will compete fiercely to be the top player in the Forest, and it appears inevitable that the Greek custodian will get a shot eventually.
There wasn’t much more Vlachodimos could have done in this international break. Having played two games will have been a nice confidence booster. He’ll be dying to play for Forest now, perhaps soon.
