CeeDee Lamb of the Dallas Cowboys has extended his deal by four years for $136 million.
CeeDee Lamb, who shattered Michael Irvin’s single-season Cowboys records in receptions and receiving yards last season, has reached a four-year $136 million contract deal with the team, ending his dispute with the Cowboys. With 135 catches for 1,749 yards, all single-season team records, and 12 touchdowns last season, Lamb allayed any concerns about his potential to become Dallas’ top weapon.
After recording 935 yards as a rookie in 2020, Lamb’s third consecutive 1,000-yard season occurred. Lamb was selected with the 17th overall pick out of Oklahoma. Since OTAs this summer, Lamb has been away from the club working to negotiate a new contract. However, at the beginning of August, owner Jerry Jones told reporters he did not have “any urgency to get it done,” which put an abrupt stop to the negotiations.
Whatever the urgency, it’s done. With the new contract, the Cowboys lock down their best player ahead of yet another season filled with expectations. Head coach Mike McCarthy will be under even more pressure following the team’s devastating playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers in January.Dak Prescott, the quarterback, is also waiting for a new contract as he approaches his contract year. His current agreement has a no-trade clause, which puts him in position to become a free agent in 2025.
Meanwhile, star pass rusher Micah Parsons, who has amassed 40.5 sacks in three seasons since joining the NFL, is about to get paid. It remains to be seen how much of an influence Lamb’s extension and a possible extension from Prescott would have on that.
