When a teammate of Caitlin Clark makes a “dirty” play against a rival, the Fever bench finds it amusing.
On Monday night, the Indiana Fever triumphed, their fifth victory in the previous seven games. They are currently 3.5 games ahead of the Atlanta Dream, the team they defeated on Monday, and occupy the second-to-last playoff berth in the WNBA.
Again, Caitlin Clark turned in a strong all-around performance, and Kelsey Mitchell scored a scorching 29 points. Everyone had to step up for the Fever, and Lexie Hull, who played a season-high thirty minutes, was one such player. Hull gained notoriety during the game for a particular play in which she “pushed” a Dream player out of bounds, to the delight of the Fever bench.
Rhyne Howard of the Dream was right on the edge of the sideline, and Hull was covering him. The Fever player gave her a mid-body shove, which completely threw her off balance and forced her to step out as she was trying to protect the ball from Hull.
Some players on the bench were actively alerting the referee that she was going out of bounds as all of that was going on close to the Fever bench. When Howard became irate at the push not being called, they all laughed.
In the end, the Fever prevailed 84-79. A play like that could prove to be the difference in a game that is so tight. Hull played excellent defense the entire evening, especially against Howard, who had trouble with her shot.
