The Maple Leafs have won the Stanley Cup twice thanks to a trade pitch.
The Toronto Maple Leafs, according to general manager Brad Treliving, were not done making moves, and after making one trade proposal, they were able to acquire Blake Coleman from the Calgary Flames. One user suggested a trade that would have seen the Maple Leafs acquire Coleman in a multi-player blockbuster. PuckPedia is a website that allows users to make their own transactions with a new tool called PuckGM.
Blake Coleman kept $1.9 million. Flames receive: David Battle Semyon Der-Arguchintsev Conor Timmins 2027 second-round selection Coleman, with money preserved, would join Toronto in a blockbuster multi-player trade. Coleman has three years remaining on his six-year, $29.4 million contract. Coleman had a significant role in the 2020 and 2021 Stanley Cup victories for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Following his second Stanley Cup victory, he became a Flames player. Coleman can play as a middle-six forward for Toronto and would provide the Maple Leafs’ offense some extra scoring punch.
Last season, Coleman recorded 30 goals and 24 assists for 54 points in 78 games with the Flames.
In return, Toronto would deal Kampf and Timmins who are depth NHL players, but the contracts make the salary work. The bigger parts of the proposed deal for the Flames would be the 2027 second-round pick and prospect Der-Arguchintsev.
Der-Arguchintsev was drafted in the third round of the 2018 NHL draft but the 23-year-old is back in Russia playing in the KHL. However, he has just one year left on his deal in the KHL so after this season, he could return back to North America and become a full-time NHL player with the Flames.
Maple Leafs GM Is Not Done Making Changes In the offseason, Toronto concentrated on improving defense and goaltending, as the Maple Leafs acquired Anthony Stolarz in goal and Chris Tanev and Oliver Ekman-Larsson on defense. But, Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving stated during an appearance on TSN 1050’s OverDrive that his organization is still exploring possibilities to improve the squad.
“I think we still have about five weeks left before camp. Furthermore, we’re not quite set. We’re always looking for ways to improve as a team,” Treliving stated. “We’re going to examine everything at the end of the year, as I mentioned.” People can get enamored with the idea of “letting’s make a big change just to make a big change” at times. You may go out and make significant changes at the end of the day. It doesn’t seem sense to me to make a change merely to stand up and say, “Look at it, we made this big change,” if they’re not improving your team. On the other hand, PuckPedia indicates that Toronto has cap space of slightly over $1.2 million.
Coleman Was Said to Be a Trade Fit for the Leafs Toronto was mentioned in connection with Coleman earlier in the offseason. The Leafs Nation’s NHL expert Nick Alberga made a possible trade connection between Toronto and Coleman on July 8.
