California’s Anaheim (AP) — After being struck by a pitch on his right hand in the first inning of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels, Atlanta third baseman Austin Riley exited the field.
Riley fielded a sinker hit by Jack Kochanowicz at 97 mph off his right hand. He departed in between innings, but stayed in to run the bases. Luke Williams, an infielder, took his spot.
It’s Riley who is at bat.256 with 56 RBIs and 19 home homers. During Atlanta’s 10-game road trip, he was 7 for 41.
