Is there a score system for Breaking at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris?
Aug. 9, Paris (Reuters) – Breaking will make a cameo appearance at the Paris Games, as decided by Paris 2024 and in keeping with the IOC’s larger goals of increasing the Olympics’ appeal to a younger demographic.
Breaking—also referred to as breakdancing for the uninitiated—was developed in the 1970s at block parties in the Bronx neighborhood of New York. It combines urban dance with acrobatic moves performed to hip-hop music grooves.
CURRENTLY, WHAT ARE THE ESSENTIALS OF BREAKING?
The three main components of breaking are as follows:
Top rock is the term for techniques that are executed standing up; these usually involve a combination of elegant hand gestures and deft footwork.
BREAKING: HOW IS IT SCORED?
There are fights between two athletes in the competition. Every fight is comprised of multiple rounds. Every round, one person goes first, and the other athlete reacts.
Five criteria are used to evaluate each round: musicality, vocabulary (the range of moves, genres, and transitions), originality, execution, and technique. How nicely a breaker combines their actions with the beats is referred to as musicality.
WHERE IS THIS BREAKDOWN ACCOMPLISHING?
Place de la Concorde, a prominent plaza in Paris, is the location of the breaking as well as the location of the skateboarding and BMX competitions.
Although breaking will have its Olympic debut in Paris in 2028, Los Angeles has already said that it will not be included in their schedule, and it seems likely that breaking won’t return when Brisbane serves as host in 2032.
