After receiving congratulations from Sky Coach, Angel Reese sobbed in the locker room.
Things got real for Angel and she got emotional.
After the drama unfolded, Angel Reese left the Chicago Sky locker room in tears. Angel Reese did not know what was going to happen. Coach Teresa Weatherspoon honored her teammates for their hard work during their 85-77 win against the Atlanta Dream, but Angel was not prepared for what was about to happen.
Then, coach T-Spoon went through and gave praise to Dana Evans and Diamond DeShields, awarding them boxing gloves for showing the most “fight.” Reese, who recorded her WNBA record 11th consecutive double-double, did not get any recognition, but she was in tears shortly after.
As Weatherspoon went to break the huddle, she pulled the team back and prepared them for one last announcement while she had everyone’s attention. She grabbed Reese’s arm, and the Chi Town Barbie looked visibly anxious.
She yelled, “We got an All-Star in the building!” and Reese’s mouth dropped to the ground. She felt a mix of feelings, from awkwardness from not knowing what to say to happiness and disbelief. Her teammates lovingly encouraged her the entire time.
Clark and Reese will compete in the WNBA All-Star Game.
Angel Reese, who leads the league in rebounds per game and averages 13.2 points per game right now, was a worthy addition to the WNBA All-Star team during his debut season. Longtime on-court adversary and fellow rookie Caitlin Clark is also on the fan-voted squad.
“This is a huge accomplishment for everybody,” she continued. “I don’t want it to take away from any of that and just be the focal point of All-Star weekend because that’s not fair to them.”
But with the format of WNBA All-Stars vs Team USA, the team traveling to the 2024 Paris Olympics in a few weeks, there’s no doubt to spotlight will be on Clark and Reese. As rookies, they are having an outsized impact on the league, as shown in their popularity in the All-Star voting. They now have an opportunity to work together and demonstrate on the court why they merited a berth in the Olympic team.
