Atlanta Braves Closer to Adding Another Weapon.
Ian Anderson is about to make a move that will bring him back to the Atlanta Braves.
This season, the Atlanta Braves’ pitching staff has been playing admirably. But the squad still needs help at the back end of the rotation, between the spot starts and the fifth starter.
Fortunately, a second rehab start has been set for one of Atlanta’s key players from the team’s 2021 World Series run. Anderson was originally scheduled to go to Rome, as BravesSI had previously reported, but the Braves changed their plans following Anderson’s second FCL start.
On Sunday afternoon, Anderson will open for the Augusta Green Jackets, who are a Single-A affiliate.
“On Sunday, June 30, Ian Anderson, the starting pitcher for the Atlanta Braves, is scheduled to resume his rehabilitation assignment at SRP Park. The team announced on X that the 2021 World Series champion will start the game against the Charleston RiverDogs on Sunday at 1:35 PM.
This will be his third rehab start as he works his way back to the MLB level, having appeared strong in his two appearances with the FCL Braves. According to David O’Brien of The Athletic, his return later in the season would be a huge boost for the Braves.
“Ian Anderson is set to make a rehab start for the ‘ Single-A Augusta affiliate at 12: 30 p.m. Sunday against Charleston,” O’Brien said on X. “After undergoing Tommy John surgery in April 2023, he is recuperating. After the All-Star break, the Braves might have him back.”
Anderson is not in any hurry to rejoin the Braves, but it is encouraging that he has made two rehab starts in as many days without any complaints about injuries and has had strong outings.
The Braves, who have lost the first two games of their series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, will resume play on Sunday at 11:35 a.m. EST.
