Trade with the Atlanta Braves for a New York Mets outfielder is being proposed.
Surprisingly, the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves would exchange in a suggested trade.
At the deadline, the New York Mets are in a great position to sell. Although the season has not gone as planned, adjustments must be made.
In fact, the circumstances might even have some advantages. Owner Steve Cohen has stated that he is prepared to invest money in trying to assemble a competitive squad that might contend for a World Series in the summer of 2024–2025.
If the Mets decide to sell, they would acquire prospects in trade that might be useful in the offseason.
For them to succeed in the future, signing free agents will be the first step, but having movable prospects is just as crucial.
Mark Powell of FanSided made an unexpected trade proposal in which the New York Yankees would send Harrison Bader to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for two prospects.
Two right-handed pitchers, Darius Vines and Lucas Braun, would be dealt to the Mets.
“Trading within the NL East isn’t ideal for either side, but it’s a better deal for the Mets because Bader is likely to leave in free agency after the season, especially if he continues his hot hitting from the plate,” Powell stated.
Bader would not be surprised if he moved. Despite his lack of offensive production this season, he is still a top defensive outfielder, hitting.272/.317/.376. Few players in baseball will provide the Braves with the production that Ronald Acuna Jr. would have provided if he hadn’t been injured, even though he won’t.
Bader was ranked No. 30 on Bleacher Report’s “big board” for the MLB trade deadline.
“Bader is an intriguing target for some teams only based on his glovework, but he’s also having a better season at the plate than he has in previous years. While “more productive” may refer to an OPS+ of 100 as opposed to 85 in 2022 and 69 last year, he is still managing to reach base and steal bases at a respectable rate.
“He could go to a contender and be a daily fixture in the 8-hole while manning the 8 (CF) in the scorebook.”
New York and Atlanta don’t typically make trades, but with the position the Mets are in, they need to take the best possible package in every scenario. If this is the package that helps them get better in the future, it’s the one that should be made.
The July trade deadline posses many questions, ones the front office will have to answer.
