Steelers Make Two Coaching Moves
Pittsburgh Two changes have been made by the Pittsburgh Steelers to their coaching staff: one offensive assistant’s role has been changed, and an outside candidate has been hired.
The Steelers have formally promoted former quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan to senior offensive assistant, according to the team’s website. Pittsburgh will keep Sullivan on staff, but Sullivan’s job will be expanded now that they have Tom Arth as their new quarterback coach and an experienced coach.
Sullivan met with the New Orleans Saints and Las Vegas Raiders for two separate interviews as offensive coordinator outside of the organization, but he was not selected for either position. In year three, the young quarterback should advance thanks to his relationship with Kenny Pickett.
The Steelers have also named Matt Baker as an assistant offensive coach. Baker, who conducted an interview a few weeks ago, will now collaborate with Sullivan and other offensive players. Last season, the former NFL quarterback assisted the Atlanta Falcons on special teams, collaborating with Arthur Smith, Pittsburgh’s new offensive coordinator.
Phil Matusz has also joined the Steelers as a strength and conditioning coach. For the past four years, Boston College’s head strength and conditioning coach has been Matusz. He spent six seasons as Ohio State’s assistant conditioning coach before joining BC.
As assistant strength and conditioning coaches, Justus Galac and Roderick Moore will be in front of him. Moore is also from the Falcons, but Galac is from Temple.
