Texas longhorns sign new contract with bills talented player
From being an undrafted free agent to one of the more consistent defensive tackles in the NFL, former Texas Longhorns standout Poona Ford has had quite the journey since leaving the Forty Acres.
And after five seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, he’s now beginning a new chapter.
Ford signed a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday, per reports from NFL Network. Joining the team on a short deal, he’ll reportedly take less money with the Bills in order to give himself the best shot at winning a Super Bowl, NFL’s Tom Pelissero said.
“One of the top free agents still available, Ford turned down more money elsewhere to try to win a ring in Buffalo,” he wrote. “A big (literally) post-draft addition for Sean McDermott’s defense.”
The Bills win big by adding a player of Ford’s talent on a bargain. While being consistently available over the past few seasons, he’s also totaled 182 tackles, 7.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and four passes defended in 76 career games.
In 42 career games at Texas, Ford proved to be a real problem for opposing offenses in the trenches. He totaled 133 tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two passes defended.
He’ll now look to add a ring to a career résumé that many didn’t see coming.
