The Philadelphia Eagles are releasing former All-Pro safety Kevin Byard, ESPN reported Friday. Cutting ties with the 30-year-old veteran will clear about $13.7 million in salary cap space. The Eagles acquired Byard from Tennessee in October in exchange for safety Terrell Edmunds and fifth- and sixth-round picks in this April’s NFL draft. Byard made 10 starts for Philadelphia and recorded 75 tackles, three passes defensed and one interception. According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), Byard was ranked as the 23rd highest graded safety in the NFL. He had a strong season, achieving career highs in both tackles (122) and solo tackles (80) during the 16 regular-season games. Byard initially started the season with the Tennessee Titans before being traded to the Eagles. Despite only playing 10 games for Philadelphia, he managed to secure the fourth-highest number of tackles on the team, with a total of 75 following the trade.
