NY Giants Mock Draft: Joe Schoen trades down and still lands next franchise QB
Despite all the chatter, the Giants choose to trade down and still acquire a quarterback.
WR Xavier Legette of South Carolina selected in the second round by the NY Giants
After the Giants selected Penix in the first round to fill a critical need, New York chooses to choose wide receiver Xavier Legette of South Carolina in the second round to fill another key need on the squad.
In mock drafts, Legette is no stranger to the G-Men; in fact, several have him selected by the Giants in this round. The wide receiver room will be greatly improved by pairing Legette with Darius Slayton, Jalin Hyatt, Wan’Dale Robinson, and the returning Isaiah Hodgins.
Legette has 71 receptions for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns during his outstanding senior year at South Carolina. Legette’s strength and physicality will be a perfect complement to the speed and athleticism the Giants already possess at wide receiver. This is especially true if Darren Waller chooses to retire from the game and does not return for a second season with the Giants.
The New York Giants are evaluating their options in the 2024 NFL Draft, including sticking at No. 6 and trading up with teams like the Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots, in order to get a new franchise quarterback. In a mock draft, they pass on Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy and trade their No. 6 and No. 70 picks to the Denver Broncos in exchange for the No. 12 overall pick and future draft assets in order to choose Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. The Giants can now restructure their offensive line for better protection while also adding a prospective quarterback to their roster.
