BREAKING: Buccaneers’ Re-Sign Defensive Star As They Continue to Bolster Roster
With three consecutive NFC South Division titles under their belt, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers boast a star-studded roster. A “star” should be awarded to Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Vita Vea, Tristan Wirfs, and Antoine Winfield Jr. because of their consistent success throughout their careers.
With all of those elite players committed to the Bucs for at least one more season in red and pewter, they should feel fortunate about the foundation they have in place.
Just one day before free agency started, the team and quarterback Baker Mayfield reached an agreement on a new three-year, $100 million contract.
But there was still work to be done, and on Tuesday the Bucs added another key player.
In order to guarantee that one of their most vital players will wear red and pewter for at least one more season, linebacker Lavonte David and the Tampa Bay front office have reached an agreement on a new deal, according to a story published on Tuesday by Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.
Details of the terms and contract were leaked by Ian Rapoport. Lavonte’s deal, which has a base value of $9 million and the potential to grow to $10 million, is for a year, as anticipated.
David has achieved a great deal over his eleven seasons in Tampa, but this is much more than a sentimental signing. This season, Lavonte David will be crucial to the Buccaneers. He is a dynamic presence in the center of Todd Bowles’ defense because of his great coverage linebacker skills as well as his ability to shed blocks, identify and pursue plays against the run, and pressure the passer when necessary.
To make it even more evident, extending Lavonte David for an additional season is a smart move for Jason Licht and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. David is one of the hardest workers in the organization, a well-liked leader among his peers, and an all-time fan favorite.
