“Top-level” international player on Wolves’ radar in search for new striker
Following a season in which they exceeded expectations in the Premier League, Wolverhampton Wanderers now appear prepared to capitalize on that success by pursuing a new striker.
Top on O’Neil’s wishlist is a new striker.
At the beginning of the season, even the most upbeat of Wolves supporters were concerned about their team’s future. It is evident that Gary O’Neil has done a fantastic job since taking over at Molineux as the team currently sits ninth in the table and is only three points out of European football.
Despite their success this year, it’s obvious that signing a new striker could be the main priority for Wolves this summer. Though Hwang Hee-Chan and Matheus Cunha’s pairing has produced a total of 19 goals in the Premier League, it is still evident that the team is in dire need of an all-around number nine.
The recent additions of Sasa Kalajdzic and Fabio Silva have not taken off; both are currently playing football elsewhere, and it appears that their futures in the Midlands are questionable. In terms of incomings, Wolves had previously expressed interest in Lewis Ferguson, a Scottish international who plays for Bologna, and they nearly signed Yuri Alberto, a striker for Corinthians, in the January transfer window.
Wolfpack joins the Nketiah race
Wolves have added their name to the list of Premier League teams hoping to sign Eddie Nketiah, as was originally published by TEAMTalk. Currently, Brentford, Crystal Palace, and Fulham are all interested in signing the 24-year-old striker from Arsenal. The Midlands team is aiming to persuade him to transfer to Molineux.
Now that it appears the Gunners are going to acquire a striker this summer, Nketiah’s stay in North London might be coming to an end. Although the Englishman has been a striker for Arsenal since he was a young player, his exit may be necessary to create room for new recruits.
Given that Nketiah spent a significant portion of his time at the Emirates on the bench, it makes sense that, as his career nears its zenith, he is looking for better opportunities. This season, despite his lack of playing time, the striker has been called up to the English national team for the first time. In October’s 5-0 victory over Sheffield United, the 24-year-old scored his first professional hat-trick.
Mikel Arteta was quick to laud England international Nketiah after his performance against the Blades, telling the media:
“I think he’s excellent.”
“I’m overjoyed for him, an academy player, to score a hat-trick in the Premier League. He must savor the present. He certainly deserves it, and ideally there will be many more in the future.
