Bayern Munich suffer freak Harry Kane injury blow ahead of Arsenal Champions League meeting
Arsenal injury news as Harry Kane suffers freak setback ahead of Champions League meeting with the Gunners during Bayern Munich win
Less than twenty-four hours after Bayern Munich drew Arsenal in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, Harry Kane was forced off the field due to injury. The former Tottenham player was not able to finish the game despite scoring his 31st goal in the Bundesliga this season, which led to a comeback victory for the current champions.
With less than 20 minutes remaining, Thomas Tuchel was forced to substitute his star forward as Bayern defeated Darmstadt, who were at the bottom of the table, 5-2 on Saturday. Less than three weeks remain until Arsenal hosts the German powerhouses at Emirates Stadium.
Harry Kane has provided a brief injury update after he was subbed off in Bayern Munich’s 5-2 win over Darmstadt on Saturday. The England international scored goal number 37 of the season in the away victory but his afternoon ended prematurely following a clash with the goalpost.
Prior to Kane’s goal, Jamal Musiala had found the back of the net with Serge Gnabry and Mathys Tel also on target later in the half. The three points took the Bavarians seven off leaders Bayer Leverkusen before their clash against Freiburg on Sunday, however there will be some long-term concern surrounding Kane.
Bayern drew Premier League leaders Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals with Kane a prolific scorer during his Tottenham days when facing the Gunners.
Heading to Emirates Stadium without their star striker and away supporters, after they were given a stadium ban for the pyrotechnics thrown onto the pitch in the win over Lazio in the previous round, would be a huge blow. However, as the injury happened so recently, there is no firm diagnosis on the issue that resulted in him being withdrawn.
In his post-match press conference, Thomas Tuchel also offered an insight into what happened that led to the injury with his update perhaps not a promising one: “He collided with the post and twisted his ankle a bit,” the Bayern boss said. “He had his ankle iced. There’s still no diagnosis, we have to wait. I hope it’s nothing bad.”
Given his history of ankle issues, it could spell bad news for Bayern and Kane with the update from the man himself, while brief, also not promising. When asked about the injury while walking through the mixed zone, he said: “It’s a little bit painful.”
