Patriots Ex Mike Vrabel Hired by Browns
Mike Vrabel, a former linebacker for the New England Patriots, has started a new position at a place that used to be owned by Bill Belichick.
According to NFL Network, Vrabel, the former head coach of the Tennessee Titans who was fired in January, is currently a coaching and personnel consultant with the Cleveland Browns.
When Vrabel arrived in Indianapolis in February to attend the NFL Combine alongside general manager Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski of the Browns, the alliance officially began.
Vrabel, an Ohio native who attended Ohio State for his college career, is back in his hometown after passing up multiple head coaching opportunities this past cycle.
Before going into coaching, 48-year-old Vrabel had a prosperous 14-year professional playing career. He was a player with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2009–2010, the Patriots in 2001–2008, and the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1997–2000.
In eight New England seasons, Vrabel appeared in 125 games, making 110 starts. In all, he recorded 606 tackles, 48 sacks, and 55 tackles for loss.
In 2017, Vrabel was the defensive coordinator for the Houston Texans before taking over as head coach of Tennessee. From 2014 to 2016, he led Houston’s linebackers. Prior to that, he spent three years as an assistant coach at Ohio State University, including one as the linebackers’ coach, two in charge of the defensive line.
Vrabel spent six years with the Titans, going 54-45, making three postseason appearances, and winning NFL Coach of the Year in 2021 after leading Tennessee to a 12-5 record.
next their defeat in the divisional and wildcard rounds in Vrabel’s second season, Tennessee advanced to the AFC Championship game the next two seasons.
However, the Titans had a difficult two seasons, finishing 6-11 this past season and 7-10 in 2022.
Vrabel is now moving on to his next project, which could not last long before he gets back on the coaching wagon the next offseason.
