Texas Longhorns Coach Steve Sarkisian Shares Injury Update on QB Quinn Ewers
Texas’s Austin On Saturday in Austin, the No. 7 Texas Longhorns defeated the No. 23 Kansas State Wildcats 33-30 in overtime to improve to 8-1. Once again, Maalik Murphy started in place of the injured Quinn Ewers, who has now missed two games because of the throwing shoulder injury he sustained in the 31-24 victory over the Houston Cougars on October 21.
In his postgame press conference, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian provided a quick update on Ewers’ condition.
According to Quinn’s report, he’s heading in the right route. I’m not entirely sure how rapidly yet,” Sarkisian remarked. We have a lot of depth on this team, and the quarterback position is no exception. Let’s hope Quinn comes back.”
Before the game began on Bruce Feldman, a college football insider for FOX Sports, said on Saturday that there is hope for Ewers to play against the TCU Horned Frogs on the road the following week.
Feldman stated, “He did throw on Thursday.” “We’re told they are optimistic he could return as early as next week at TCU.”
Although Murphy is now 2-0 as a starter, the victory on Saturday was far from flawless. His passing efficiency was 19 of 37 for 248 yards and one touchdown, but he also threw two interceptions—both of which were dubious throws that could have been picked off. In his past two games, he has committed four turnovers.
Given Murphy’s uneventful day, it makes sense that curiosity is now focused on Ewers’ potential return date. Despite his errors, Murphy deserves a lot of credit for making several crucial throws in the closing moments, but the Texas attack is better with Ewers back in the mix.
“I know this much, our team is fighting through a lot of stuff from an injury standpoint,” Sarkisian stated. “… Meanwhile, we will attempt to pour in to areas that Maalik is still good at, attempt to address some of those problems, and take care of the ball.”
The kickoff time for Texas vs. TCU on Saturday is still pending.
