Free Agency Day 1:Cowboys lose 3 players to open market
Texas’s Frisco The Dallas Cowboys, who need greater financial flexibility to participate in the free agent market heading into the new league year, chose to remain idle on the first day of the legal tampering period.
Major players were cut on the first day of the NFL Draft, including the Cowboys, who lost two offensive line starters to other teams and their second-best sack-getter from 2023 to a rival team in the division.
The plots from the first day of activity are listed below.
Reversing course The Tennessee Titans and Tony Pollard, a former offensive weapon for the Cowboys, reached an agreement on a three-year, $24 million contract on Monday morning. Pollard will don a different uniform for the first time in his NFL career. Pollard returns to his home state, Memphis, where he played collegiate and high school basketball. In a backfield that also includes Tyjae Spears, a second-year running back, he now takes Derrick Henry’s place. According to reports, the Cowboys, Giants, and Vikings made lower offers than what was agreed upon.
After being selected by the Cowboys in the 2018 draft, defensive lineman Dorance Armstrong’s final two seasons in Dallas increased his value on the open market. Armstrong has established himself as a reliable pass rusher with exceptional special teams skills. He will now accompany Dan Quinn to the Washington Commanders, where he will play as a featured pass-rusher for the Cowboys’ NFC East foes in exchange for a three-year contract worth $45 million.
Not only did Armstrong follow Quinn, but center Tyler Biadasz did as well.He signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Commanders to strengthen the middle of their offensive line going forward, making him one of the first centers off the board in a competitive market at the position.
The Philadelphia Eagles added edge rusher Bryce Huff and running back Saquon Barkley to strengthen their side of the ball. Following Barkley’s official departure from the team, the New York Giants signed running back Devin Singletary, who had a successful season with the Houston Texans.
Following the unexpected acquisition of running back Josh Jacobs, the Green Bay Packers released Aaron Jones on Monday afternoon, adding to the league’s still-vibrant free agent running back market.
Cowboys free agents who haven’t signed a contract as of yet defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins, offensive lineman Tyron Smith, cornerback Stephon Gilmore, and others are in place.
