RB Tony Pollard signs 3-year, $24M deal with Tennessee Titans, reports say
NASHVILLE: Tony Pollard will take Derrick Henry’s place on the Tennessee Titans, who have traded in four Pro Bowl running backs.
A source close to the negotiations informed The Associated Press that Pollard and the Titans reached an agreement on Monday for a $24 million, three-year contract. Because free players cannot formally sign with new clubs until Wednesday, when the NFL’s new league year kicks off, the person talked to the AP under condition of anonymity.
Last season, Tyjae Spears was selected by the Titans. Spears served as Henry’s backup. The eight-year veteran, who turned thirty in January, will become a free agent for the first time on Wednesday.
Dallas selected Pollard, 26, in the fourth round out of Memphis in 2019. With the Cowboys, he had two consecutive seasons with 1,000 yards rushing the 2023 season’s franchise tag for Pollard.
Despite Pollard rushing for 1,005 yards and six touchdowns this season, the Cowboys decided not to tag him for the second consecutive year. In addition, Pollard recorded a career-high 311 yards on 55 receptions.
With 762 carries and an average of 4.8 yards per rush, Pollard has amassed 3,621 yards of career rushing. Moreover, he has five touchdowns and 1,319 yards on 176 receptions.
In January, Henry celebrated his 30th birthday. With 280 carries, the 2015 Heisman Trophy winner led the NFL in carries and finished second in rushing in 2023 behind Christian McCaffrey of the 49ers. In addition, he is tied for 13th place in NFL history with 90 rushing touchdowns and is one of just eight players to run for at least 2,000 yards in a season.
He’s Eddie George’s franchise running record of 10,009 yards is just 508 yards away.
