Wrexham prepare for life in the Football League Luton captain Tom Lockyer was stretchered off in the play-off final against Coventry having gone down without any other player near him. The Welsh centre-back was receiving oxygen from the physios before exiting the pitch early into the game at Wembley, as his parents came down from the stands to be by his side in the medical room before being transported to hospital.
Players had been ushered away from the physios as Lockyer was running backwards when he stumbled and bent his leg awkwardly after his studs became stuck in the turf, ending his day much earlier than expected, clutching his leg before being carefully loaded onto a stretcher and replaced by Reece Burke following a lengthy stoppage in the first half.
As Sky Sports cameras panned away from the defender who continued to receive treatment, teammates appeared concerned, fearing that their captain had sustained a major injury just 12 minutes into the game.

The broadcaster later stated that Lockyer was conscious and had been brought to the medical room, although Sky Sports stated that the extent of the injury was unknown but that his parents had gone down from the grandstand to be with their son before being transported to hospital.
The club has sent an update to fans on Lockyer’s ailment. “We are able to report that after collapsing on the pitch, Tom Lockyer has been taken to hospital for further tests,” the statement went on to say. “He is responsive and communicating with his family, who are present.” We’re all rooting for you, Locks #COYH.”
