Gary O’Neil sends message after ‘unbelievable’ Wolves win over Fulham
Wolves beat Fulham 2-1 at Molineux in the Premier League
The Wolves manager, Gary O’Neill, was ecstatic about his team’s 2-1 victory over Fulham. Because of the difficulties they encountered, he declared that it was his favorite victory of the year.
In the first half, Wolves had to substitute two players because of injuries sustained by Pedro Neto and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde. But thanks to goals from Rayan Ait-Nouri and Nelson Semedo, they were still able to score twice in the second half.
Fulham’s Alex Iwobi scored the game’s last goal. “Amazing victory,” exclaimed an ecstatic O’Neil, whose squad is currently ranked ninth in the Premier League standings.
In light of everything we’ve had to deal with, our pre-game situation, and our current position, he said, “I think my favorite ourselves in 20-odd minutes into the game.” He praised his team for beating a strong Fulham side, saying: “To find a way to beat a Fulham team that are in a really good moment when I got their team-sheet I realised how strong they are depth wise, unbelievable bench they had available to them. “Obviously we’re in a different moment. We can be as strong as that but at this moment we’re not. Then mentally for the players to lose the only attacking players we have left and still be able to find a way to respond I thought was an unbelievable win.
“They certainly are, but the fans need to be incredibly proud of the team they just witnessed. That’s what my squad would have looked like if I had grown up as a Wolves supporter and you had asked.”
The manager of Wolves was furious because two of his players had suffered injuries. Bellegarde’s left knee injury occurred early in the game, and Neto’s left hamstring strain forced him to leave the game before halftime.
Due to a hamstring issue, Neto had already missed two months of play this season. He was also forced to depart last week’s match against Newcastle.
O’Neil regretted selecting him for the game.
O’Neil remarked, “He had a really good week,” regarding Neto. “He had a scan that was completely clear, no muscle damage at all, he felt really good yesterday in training, felt good again today.”
O’Neil regrets his choice to play Neto: “I have to decide if it was the right choice to play him today.” Just thinking of Pedro and how hard he’s worked to get back breaks my heart. We’re optimistic; the medical staff doesn’t believe it’s anything like his first one, but we’ll scan it first and proceed accordingly.
“If I had the team-sheet back again now, of course I’m not putting Pedro Neto’s name on it.”
Marco Silva, the manager of Fulham, was also not pleased. Big opportunities were missed by his team. When Harry Wilson faced the goalie one-on-one, he failed to score, and Tosin
“We had a chance to come to half-time leading the score clearly,” Silva said. He thinks his team could have been winning by the break.
“They didn’t start great, but after they had their first good chance, they got better and pushed forward.
“But the reality is the game is 95 minutes and the way we started the second half, we played too slow, losing some balls in dangerous areas that we cannot lose. And from that moment we are punished.”
