Sheffield Wednesday are close to hiring German coach Danny Rohl as their next manager.
Sheffield Wednesday, who fired Xisco Munoz last week, are allegedly close to naming Rohl, 34, as their next manager.
It is Rohl’s first managerial position, having previously worked as an assistant coach with the German national team.
In an interview with German source Kicker regarding his impending Wednesday arrival, the former Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, and Southampton assistant coach stated that the task at Hillsborough is “definitely a big challenge,” but that he is committed to joining the club.
After the break, Rohl will go to Watford, with his first home game against South Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United at the end of the month.
“The club has a great tradition,” said Rohl. “The stadium has a typical English atmosphere.” Returning to England had always been a dream of mine.”
Kicker’s report also reveals that Rohl has already been hard at work analysis Sheffield Wednesday’s performances this season, and that he’s already created player profiles for each individual.
Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday face a “significant challenge.”
Rohl has undoubtedly chosen a difficult assignment for his first managing position.
But he deserves credit for having the courage to take on the challenge. He has good coaching experience, but how he will do when he takes over at Wednesday remains to be seen.
Though he appears to know his business, and he should be a significant tactical upgrade over Munoz, who simply wasn’t up to the role.
Dejphon Chansiri, the Owls’ owner, deserves credit for bringing in Rohl, even though he still has a lot to make up for this season.
Following this month’s international break, Sheffield Wednesday go to Watford.
